Clinical Coding trainers
It is perhaps indicative of the high value now being placed on TAP training delivery skills across the Service that Approved Clinical Coding trainers are required to achieve a TAP Training Delivery Skills Certificate.
Clarifying the facts on qualifications for NHS trainers
Some Trusts have been led to believe that PTLLS is a required qualification for all their trainers. This is not the case.
The QTLS qualifications (Qualified to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) including PTLLS were introduced by Lifelong Learning UK (now defunct) in 2008, to address the needs of teachers and tutors primarily working in the Further Education sector.
PTLLS was NOT designed to meet the needs of L&D trainers working for private or public sector employers. Read the facts on PTLLS.

TAP - the de facto NHS training delivery standard
TAP has long been a recommended ETD standard (the ETD S 3.0 Connecting for Health - Trainer Standards, Pre-requisites and Qualifications document put TAP first in the list of trainer qualifications).
The current ETD Standards (downloadable from http://www.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk/) do not list approved qualifications, however the various TAP skills modules cover all eight Standards. With the majority of trainers across the Service now holding at least one TAP qualification, and with it now being mandated for all Clinical Coding trainers, we hope that TAP-quality training will become the norm in all disciplines.
More than 2,600 NHS trainers have achieved certification of their skills under the TAP programme since 1998. The majority have achieved certification of their Training Delivery Skills. Others have completed a range of TAP modules, spanning e-tutoring, facilitation, coaching, training design & development, blended learning, learner engagement and others.
More than 90 Trusts participated in the 2009 TAP Learning System survey which produced amazing results.
