The Theoretical Basis of Learning

Introduction

The majority of trainers initially find their way into a training role because of their subject matter knowledge and expertise. This can mean that their practice is not based on a solid foundation: an understanding of how adults learn.

Yet, attempting to embed new knowledge or bring about changes to attitudes and behaviours without a basic understanding would be akin to a surgeon performing an operation with no training in human anatomy - perhaps not quite so dangerous, but certainly just as ineffective!

Every L&D professional needs to develop the ability to employ a varied mix of theoretical approaches that match their learners’ needs. An understanding of the mainstream theories is therefore essential and this extends to subject matter experts and line managers with training responsibilities.

Everyone undertaking a role-based TAP Diploma is required to undertake a short online self-study course, ‘The Theoretical Basis of Learning.’

Benefits
