TAP Certificate in Learner Engagement

Introduction

Optimising learning transfer through structure, subject matter knowledge and training skills is no longer enough; trainers also need to demonstrate interpersonal skills which stimulate learner motivation and engagement. The Trainer-of-CHOICE® course is the culmination of a two year research project into what makes an excellent trainer and is the vital next step in any trainer’s development.

This course focuses on building trainers’ self-awareness and the skills to create an empathic, learner-centred climate. It centres on the Six Core Principles of CHOICE® and invites
delegates to personally adopt the Trainer-of-CHOICE® Charter.

The Charter principles are based on the six key drivers of learner engagement and are easily remembered as they form the acronym CHOICE®. This enables trainers to focus on what is really important to learners – and we are all learners of course, so the six Principles reflect innate human needs.

This course is an essential component of the TAP Diploma in Learning Facilitation.

Benefits

Through the exploration of each Principle, trainers are helped to become more self-aware of how their current attitudes and behaviours might be de-motivating to learners, therefore restricting learning effectiveness. This self reflection will help delegates identify any adjustments they could make to their current practices that would improve learner motivation and performance.
