Northamptonshire Teaching PCT is your new local health organisation. We are responsible for planning and overseeing health services for approximately 680,000 people living in Northamptonshire.
Our aim is to improve the health of the people of Northamptonshire and to ensure that high quality treatment is available for them when they need it.
Primary Care Trusts are organisations, which bring together general practitioners (GPs), community nurses, practice nurses, other community services and other agencies dealing with primary care services.
There are three main functions of a primary care trust (PCT)
• engaging with the local populations to improve health and well-being
• commissioning a comprehensive range of high quality, responsive and efficient services, across all service sectors, and
• directly providing high quality responsive and efficient services where this gives best value.
