  1. This course can be delivered as a blended format comprising three parts over a 2 to 3 week period; a live online session with self-paced activities, a two-day classroom event and final submission and assessment of project work OR
  2. A wholly online, tutor-supported programme over 5 weeks comprising a blend of live online sessions, self-paced activities and project work

1. Defining blended learning

  • Understanding the reasons why L&D needs to offer highly-flexible learning solutions in today’s climate
  • Defining blended learning and what the drivers are for learners and the organisation
  • Judging when it is appropriate to use one delivery method or when to recommend a blended solution
  • Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of different delivery methods
  • Explaining the relevance of learning through different social contexts
  • Looking at both formal and informal learning opportunities to support learning in the workplace
  • Listing the differences between a training event and a learning solution

2. Selecting methods and media

  • Understanding the differences between learning methods and media options
  • Researching the learning technologies available for learning
  • Considering which media options are appropriate for the organisation taking into account IT security, investment in infrastructure etc
  • Understanding the reasons for selecting learning methods before selecting media
  • Experiencing using a range of technologies so that an informed decision on applying new technologies to learning solutions can be made
  • Experiencing/piloting different solutions to gauge which are more effective

Special Notices

This course is delivered as a blended format comprising three parts over a 2 to 3 week period; a live online session with self-paced activities, a two-day classroom event and final submission and assessment of a blended learning work-based proposal.

Part 1 – Online

  • Tutor-led live online session (1 hour): ‘The Changing Shape of Learning’
  • Self-paced activities including researching one learning technology and preparing your project work (approx. 2 hours)

Part 2 – Two-day classroom workshop

  • Exploring current technologies which could be applied to learning and practical experience looking at case studies

Part 3 – Self-paced and online

  • Reflection and submission of a blended learning proposal for your organisation for tutor feedback (approx. 1 hour).
