Overview

This course provides delegates with the skills to facilitate events such as focus groups, workshops, action learning sets, team meetings, briefings, business improvement meetings etc. Delegates will learn how to open and close an event using subtle language patterns, which will help to build rapport with a group and to influence a positive outcome. They will learn a variety of facilitation methods and processes which can be used as appropriate to the outcome required.

Delegates explore a range of challenging behaviours and learn strategies to manage these behaviours whilst maintaining a positive environment with the group. Delegates will find out how Action Learning Sets work in practice and will have the opportunity to participate as a member of a set.

Delegates facilitate an event, including defined processes, language patterns, appropriate methods and relevant skills, to reach the required outcome.

Session 1: Building rapport

In this session, we consider:

  • The definition of facilitation
  • Skills of a facilitator and the types of events that they might manage
  • Methods of building rapport
  • The eight levels of rapport

Session 2: Language patterns

In this session, we consider:

  • Types of statements to include everyone who attends the event
  • How to embed commands in our language
  • Influence and persuasion techniques, using five influencing styles

Session 3: Facilitation processes, methods and skills

In this session, we consider:

  • The structure of a well-formed opening
  • Facilitation methods, organising and filtering responses
  • The structure of a well-formed close

Session 4: Action Learning Sets

In this session, we consider:

  • How Action Learning Sets work
  • Practical application in the workplace

Session 5: Challenging Behaviour

In this session, we consider:

  • Types of challenging behaviour
  • Underlying reasons
  • Behaviour realignment
