Overcoming barriers within my team

Overcoming barriers within my team

Are you facing some barriers within your team?

There are usually three main causes:

  • Your team don’t feel like they are being invested in
  • Your team don’t feel like they’re doing a good job (and there’s no way of measuring it)
  • Your team don’t feel like they’re being supported properly

Did you know that L&D is known as the profession that fails to invest in their own skills?

In fact, only 29% of organisations have audited the skills of L&D against those required. Meaning that 71% of businesses have L&D teams with skills gaps, and they aren’t structuring the development of their team members to suit the needs of the business – thus leading to even more barriers from the organisation!

There will always be barriers within the team if the 3 points above aren’t addressed.

You need to ask yourself (honestly) –

What could be better in my team?
When did we last invest in the team’s development?
Have we got the skills in the team that we need? Where are the gaps?
What could I do more of to help support their development?

Here at The Training Foundation we offer you a free Learning Needs Analysis with one of our experts.

We will do a mini L&D health check for you which involves taking the time to find out what you do as an organisation, learn about the skills you already have within the team (benchmarking yourself against competencies) and find out what your plans are for the next 12-18 months and assess what needs to happen to make sure objectives are met and barriers are removed.

To arrange one of these free 30-minute calls, simply pick a time that suits you and we’ll be in touch.

I want to develop the consultancy skills and stakeholder management skills in my team

I want to develop the consultancy skills and stakeholder management skills in my team

However, these skills are rarely innate and can be learned through the TAP Certificate in L&D Consultancy – request a call back using the form below to discuss course dates and availability.

I want to develop the subject matter experts and coaches in my organisation

I want to develop the subject matter experts and coaches in my organisation

In this age of ongoing austerity, many organisations are tightening their belts and some are even resorting to downsizing their L&D functions.

However, nearly all are having to use the skills of subject matter experts (SMEs), working outside of the formal L&D team, in order to roll-out critical training or sometimes simply to survive.

Unfortunately, SMEs are rarely given the time and quality development in their training skills to cope with the demands of the job, resulting in poor delivery and therefore poor transfer of crucial learning.

If you want to improve this situation, TAP can provide a short 2-day delivery skills programme designed specifically for SMEs. Feel free to give us a call on 02476 411288 to discuss your requirements.

I am facing some challenges in achieving my L&D teams objectives

I am facing some challenges in achieving my L&D teams objectives

Are you facing some challenges in achieving your L&D team's objectives within your organisation?

There can be multiple reasons, but here's three of the most common:

  1. Line Managers aren't supporting training because they don't accept their role and responsibility for their team's development nor do they have the skills, time or motivation to coach
  2. The L&D team find it difficult to prove the value of the training and demonstrate the impact it will have on the whole organisation once transferred back into the business.
  3. The L&D team aren't measuring the impact of the learning investments on outcomes effectively therefore are struggling to get the support they need

According to research, only 15% of L&D leaders expect business managers to proactively support the application of learning in the workplace. This means that 85% of businesses don't expect that the development of team members will be supported and reinforced in the work place significantly reducing the value of the investment in training. That's a major problem, given the cost of investment!

A great place to start is making sure that there is a clear line of sight between all L&D activity and improvements in both individual performance and organisational productivity.

The five questions below may provide some answers for you:

  • Are the outcomes of your L&D initiatives increasing individual performance, organisational productivity, proving a ROI/ROE?
  • How are you measuring the above?
  • How are you reporting successful change/improvements with the rest of the business, particularly the senior leadership team?
  • Do you focus on business objectives and outcomes from the outset of all L&D initiatives, rather than solely on your training programme's aims and objectives?
  • Do you spend enough time managing the transfer of learning from learning programmes back into the workplace?

If you're unhappy with any of your answers here, TAP can help you.

We can provide a mini L&D health check for you which involves taking the time to find out what you do as an organisation, learn about the way you approach training and find out what your plans are for the next 12-18 months, assessing what would improve the likelihood of your objectives being met and barriers removed.

To arrange a free 15-minute call, simply fill in your details using the form below and we'll be in touch.
