It also needs to ensure it is fully aligned with business objectives, creating value by adopting a perspective on working and learning that is not based purely on a training delivery approach. It needs to employ a 'pull' rather than 'push' strategy to learning, only delivering that which the organisation knows it needs, and when it needs it, not what L&D think it needs.

Others prefer to start their L&D journey at the early stages of the learning cycle with consultancy or learning needs analysis skills following on with delivery, design, evaluation and learning transfer skills later.
